Electronic Onboard Career Progression (for all ranks)
Concept of the E-SSLA:
A Vessel is the best place for competence development for smooth career progression. The availability of guidance from seniors on board is never consistent for all trainees in a system, but rather dependent on the motivation and capabilities of seniors.
A Training and Assessment Record Book (TAR) may help in recording tasks learnt but cannot assure systematic learning. A well-structured and executed program with monitoring onboard, through training department in a company, as well as professional mentors can go a long way in bringing about systematic competence development in a company.
The E-SSLA program is designed to be an onboard career progression program which facilitates experience-based learning and encourages meaningful mentorship onboard.
