Safety & Operational Excellence (SOPEX)
This program offers a comprehensive curriculum focusing on regulatory compliance, behavior-based safety, personal safety, and operational excellence. Participants gain essential skills and knowledge to ensure adherence to maritime laws, promote safety at sea, and excel in their roles. By emphasizing teamwork, seamanship, and emergency procedures, candidates are equipped to contribute to the safety, efficiency, and professionalism of the maritime sector overall.
Program Contents:
Regulatory Compliance
• Security – Gangway watches, Screening of visitors, etc.
• Drug and Alcohol policies and awareness of strict personal penalties as per local law(s).
• MLC related complain procedures.
• Role during Audits and Inspections – Effective dealing with inspectors – PSC and Vetting.
Behavior Based Safety
• Fundamentals of behavior Based Safety.
• Understanding behaviors – that produce ‘positive’ consequences, and those that result in either no positive, or ‘negative’, consequences.
• Case studies to identify what is negative behavior and what constitutes positive behavior.
• Aspects of effective teamwork, peer motivation, need for precise communications in day to day operations.
Commitment to Personal Safety and Professionalism*
• Appropriate usage of PPE.
• Active participation in safety drills.
• Enhanced seamanship skills through active hands-on involvement.
Operational Excellence – Associated Risks and Unsafe Behaviors, and Appropriate Operational Procedures related to*:
• Enclosed space entry.
• Working Aloft.
• Hot & Cold work.
• Heavy weather.
• Cold Weather.
• Precautions during mooring operations.
• Equipment Operation and Control Mechanisms – Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical and Digital Systems, associated hazards and correct operating procedures.
Emergency and Contingency Measures during:*
• Flooding
• Fire
• Oil Spill
• Chemical or Hazardous Material Exposure
• Injury or Death
• Man overboard
• Piracy
*Delivery of certain topics enhanced by the use of Virtual Reality.
This Training Includes:
- In-depth sessions conducted by expert trainers

- Certification by IMOI upon successful completion
- Comprehensive reports from ISF to the sponsoring company, including:

Capt. Praveen Rai
Capt. Praveen Rai is a Master Mariner with 12 years of sailing experience on various vessels. He also boasts over 10 years of expertise in Maritime and Offshore Training research and content development. His qualifications include a Master (F.G.) Indian license, B.Sc. Graduate equivalence certificate, and certifications in Lead Auditor Course and GL Course Developers Course.
During his seven-year tenure with The ISF Group, Mumbai, he held various roles, from Project-based Research and Development Associate to Executive Director of Operations. Currently, he serves as a visiting Trainer and Course Facilitator with the ISF Group, contributing to content development for training and recruitment courses, as well as assessment systems. Capt. Praveen Rai's rich maritime background and training experience make him an asset in these industries.
