Shipboard Safety Officer’s Course (SBSO)

The responsibilities to avoid accidents on board flow from the top down; from the shore establishment to the Master, to everyone aboard. “Safety awareness” by all hands is the biggest single factor in reducing accidents. The role of the Shipboard Safety Officer is to promote Safety Culture by training and motivating the crew. This program aims to equip the designated safety officer on board a vessel with the required knowledge and skills to discharge his duties effectively.

- Duties and responsibilities of the ‘Safety Officer.
- Risk assessment.
- Undergoing Audits.
- Reporting near misses and accidents; maintaining an Accident prevention Log.
- Accident theory and accident investigation.
- Conducting Safety Meetings and spreading safety awareness on board.
- Handling Stress and Fatigue and its impact on safety.
- Case Studies.

Capt. Srirang Manjeshwar
Capt Srirang Manjeshwar is a marine professional with expertise in the field of imparting vocational training to Marine Personnel and Internal Auditing since 1995. He was the workshop Leader for the SAS Bridge Resource Management Program and has actively participated in the induction, nurturing, and training of more than 750 cadets since 2000. He holds great expertise on conducting basic and advanced courses for Management, Operational and Support level as per the STCW requirements. He is experienced as a Master on Oil Tankers Suezmax, Aframax and ULCCs and has also participated in the development of the company’s Safety Management System. He has developed Quality Management Systems and Audited several Maritime Institutes and Manning Agencies within India. He retired as Director and Head of Training, Wallem Maritime Training.
